One day the Lord showed me something in a dream. I saw that the Lord put shovels in Cheri's and my hands and told us to dig. So we dug, and as we dug; deeper and deeper, I saw that the walls of the well around us were strong and sturdy. I saw that there was no danger of collapse. They were fortified to bear the digging, the depth. I saw that the well was clean; the water would not need a filter. Cheri and I became more and more joyful as we dug. At a certain time, we felt the ground begin to rumble, we felt it move beneath our feet. We looked at each other and laughed and a geyser shot out of the ground and propelled us into the air. We rode on top of that geyser and enjoyed the fun and the movement and the power of the water pulsing up from the ground beneath us. The well filled and the rush of the release of the waters subsided, and the well became a fountain with a beautiful spray so that people wouldn't even have to lower a bucket into it to draw water out. They could fill their jars and other containers from the well-spring. The water glistened in sunlight like diamonds or crystals.
When I looked up from that place; leaning on my shovel and watching the water subside and be contained, yet remain freely flowing and available, the Lord said, “Now, go and dig another well.”
So we moved on and dug another well and moved on from there and dug another well and continued to move on, digging wells and moving on.
Then I saw how people would travel using the wells we had dug as a road map. People who came behind us would move from well to well; from provision and outpouring and refreshing to provision, outpouring, and refreshing. Because we had been sent ahead, their way was made clearer. Because we had obeyed the instruction of the Lord in the going, in the picking up of our shovels, and the digging; others, countless others, would travel safer, able to go even further being energized and empowered in their serving because of the way that was made before them.
Cheri & I: willing servants
Shovels: the gifts God has given us—music, singing, leading worship, prophetic encouragement, teaching
Water: Outpouring of the Holy Spirit for salvation, healing, provision, revelation, anointing
Wells: Worship, the place of fellowship with the Lord, personal and corporate
People that traveled using the wells as a road map: other willing servants
What to take away from this story: Believer, be willing to let the Lord use the giftings He has placed within you to bless others and further His kingdom purposes. When He speaks; listen. When He gives instruction; obey. Trust the outcome of your ministry (whatever it is and whatever it looks like) to Him. Remember He supplies the “shovel,” He is the “water,” He inhabits the “well,” and He created you with His purpose in mind (digging wells). Be willing!
